Other ministry

We were able to spend various times with the teens and young kids at Sunrise, travel with the puppet team to another town & make balloon animals for the kids, and distribute shoes donated by Good Shepherd Church members. We reconnected with a few acquaintances from past trips, and tried to be an encouragement to the Feeneys, the staff at Sunrise Children's Home, and our hosts at the Bible Camp. I believe WE were blessed by others at least as much as we were able to bless those around us!

Church Ministry

Most of our ministry opportunities came in the form of church services. We came prepared to lead singing in Spanish, to do one of two wordless skits, to give our testimonies-some in Spanish, and to have one of our men preach each night. Hours and hours of practice paid off.

Churches came in various sizes and styles of worship, and in a variety of neighborhoods:

Steve preaching at Hogar church, Sara Feeney translating
Team leading worship in Spanish at Las ViƱas church

Team giving word of welcome at church in Empalme

Elvie giving testimony at Granja church, Tom Feeney translating

Wordless sign skit at Hogar church
Wordless chair skit at church in Empalme

Other work projects

When part of the team was not needed on the main construction at Sunrise or at the Granja, they worked on other projects at Sunrise. Two front gates and the fence were repainted. One hallway was completely redone - removed bead board, spackled and sanded walls, primed bare concrete wall, repainted upper and lower sections two different colors, and stained and put up trim boards. Other small jobs were done to make repairs in a home where some of the young kids live.

Chicken pen construction

Kareen was the pit-boss at the Granja. It's a good thing she has more vision for potential development than many of us, considering what there was to work with. Much cleaning and scraping of old paint was needed. Then the team scavenged the property for wood, wire, re-bar, bed frames, bricks, etc to create doors, block off rooms, make ramps for chickens to enter, frame in the chicken pen, and support a future roof.

What about the chickens?  We think the first chickens may arrive in the fall, about the time that the first batch of kids take up residence at the Granja.  That may be impacted by finances, which in turn may be impacted by local political elections.  Stay tuned.
